About
The Company: IIIrd Street Paint’n’ Things
IIIrd Street Paint’n’ Things LLC is a locally owned paint and refinish company built on integrity, transparency, honesty, and quality—above all else. We specialize in refinish painting and carpentry, with a particular focus on cabinet refinishing, restoration, and detail-oriented work. That said, we genuinely love to paint it all. If it can be restored, refreshed, or reimagined with care, we’ve got the paint, the knowledge, and the skills to make that piece glow with your own unique flair.
Beyond the work itself, the long-term goal of IIIrd Street Paint’n’ Things is bigger than any single project. As a long term goal, it will in part become a free youth outreach program designed to help our youth learn professional carpentry and painting trade skills while also exploring how modern technology integrates into their work. The aim is to create opportunity, imbue confidence, and help guide—especially for kids who may not otherwise see a clear path forward.
At its core, this company exists to do right by people: clients, community, and the next generation alike.
The Crew: A One Man Band
Hello! My name is John McGrew, and I’m the sole owner and operator of IIIrd Street Paint’n’ Things. I am locally grown from out in Kuna, graduated from Bishop Kelly, and remember Bogus before it had its own snow machine. Anyone miss Paul’s?
My proudest personal accomplishment is being a recovering alcoholic, with four and a half years of sobriety under my belt, with decades left on the timeline. The journey has shaped how I approach life, parenting, and work in that I hold myself—and those around me—to high standards of morality, integrity, and accountability.
Outside of work, I’m a dedicated co-parent to the best little wingman around, and I spend my free time gaming, snowboarding, playing soccer, or just building something for the sake of building it. That love of creation is what drives everything I do, both on and off the job, living by the knowledge that I was #createdtocreate.

F.A.Q.
1. What services do you offer?
We specialize in refinishing paint and carpentry, with a strong focus on cabinet refinishing, restoration, and detail-oriented interior work. That said, we love to paint it all—if it can be refreshed, restored, or improved with care, we’re happy to discuss it.
2. What paint brands do you use?
For most interior and exterior projects we will use Behr Dynasty or similar quality water-based paints.
Automotive paints will be done using products from Limeline and Custom Colorz for the majority of fender and body work, however we do use U-Line Raptor Liner for truck beds and other parts needing extreme protection.
3. Can I choose my own paint?
This can be taken on a case by case basis. We use the paint we use on the projects we use them on because they’re proven to work and work well.
PLEASE NOTE: Any work done with client-provided paint will not come with any warranty or guarantee.
4. Will I need to prepare my space before work begins?
Yes. There will be a Pre-Work Checklist sent out 72 hours in advance, followed by a 24 hour reminder to complete the checklist.
PLEASE NOTE: Failure to complete the checklist to a satisfactory level will result in additional fees.
5. Will you protect my home during the project?
Absolutely! We go to painstaking lengths to ensure that the paint goes only where the paint is supposed to go and stays off what it’s not supposed to be on.
6. What services do you not offer?
At this time, we do not offer automotive painting, large-scale, or rushed “same-day” work. This is in part because we do not have the manpower for large-scale, or the necessary safety equipment for automotive; our focus is on quality, not blow-and-go. Soon, though! Soon.
7. Are materials included in your pricing?
Yes, unless otherwise discussed. All pricing includes the cost of materials appropriate for the project.
8. What factors affect pricing?
While there are several variables that could impact pricing, some of the most common are:
- Project size and complexity
- Prep and repair needs
- Material and paint selection
- Level of detail required
We aim for fair, transparent pricing and will disclose all possible costs prior to any Hancocks go to paper.
9. How far out are you typically booked?
Availability varies depending on project size and season. Smaller projects may be scheduled sooner, while larger projects may require more lead time.
PLEASE NOTE: Projects cannot be scheduled less than 48 hours in advance.
10. Do you offer a guarantee?
We offer a 2-year conditional labor warranty and honor all company-chosen paint manufacturer warranties.
11. Do you offer free estimates?
We offer project consultations rather than instant quotes. Most projects require an in-person or video consultation to accurately assess scope, materials, and prep needs.
12. Why can’t you give a quote without seeing the project?
Every space, surface, and substrate is different. Factors like existing finishes, damage, prep requirements, and access all affect cost and/or timeline. Fair and accurate pricing requires clear and accurate information.
13. Do you offer low-VOC or eco-friendly options?
Yes. Low-VOC and environmentally conscious options are available and generally preferred.
14. What are your hours of operation?
Office hours are Tuesday & Wednesday 10 AM – 2 PM and Thursday & Friday 10 AM – 1 PM.
Shop hours will vary.
15. Who will be working on my project?
As a one-man operation, all work is completed solely by John McGrew, the owner and operator of IIIrd Street Paint’n’ Things.
